NbS Praxis is at the heart of the climate-and-nature nexus through Nature-based Solutions and Ecosystem-based Adaptation. The practice was launched in May 2026 by Hubert Jenny, a practitioner with 40+ years of global experience, with a vision to integrate climate and nature into a nexus through NbS and EbA. You will find my professional history across private-sector development and international financing institutions in the field, getting my hands dirty, evolving from water and sanitation engineering and public-private partnerships, to urban development and environment, and finally into green, climate, and nature finance, using NbS and EbA in projects and programs.

NbS Praxis stands at the heart of the climate-and-nature nexus, where Nature-based Solutions and Ecosystem-based Approaches deliver integrated primary outcomes across climate mitigation (carbon sequestration), climate adaptation (coastal protection, water regulation), and biodiversity conservation (reversing ecosystem loss). These outcomes are accompanied by substantial socio-economic and environmental co-benefits, livelihoods, water and food security, public health, and landscape value. For example, a single intervention, a mangrove restoration, an urban tree-planting program, or a peatland rehabilitation, can deliver these combined outcomes and co-benefits with integrated project design.
The name carries a specific meaning. "Praxis" is the Greek word for practice, but not practice in the sense of repetition. In its classical use, praxis is the embodied application of knowledge, the moment where understanding becomes work and where theory becomes action. NbS and EbA are the operational expression of the climate-and-nature nexus; NbS Praxis is the doing of that work at the level of practitioner judgment. The name signals what the practice is and what it is not, not theory about NbS, not commentary on NbS, but the work of NbS and EbA done with the care that the integration deserves, based on my 40+ years of international experience covering all parts of the project cycle. NbS Praxis deliberately uses AI as a production tool, handling research and first drafting so that practitioner time can focus on the judgment and analysis that distinguish accumulated experience.

NbS Praxis supports practitioners through three integrated workstreams: advisory engagement on specific projects and programs; productized toolkits for project preparation for various climate funds, multilateral development banks, sovereign bilateral organizations, and private organizations, and related instruments; and analytical writing, a weekly briefing, and a monthly long-form analysis for practitioners doing this work. Glossary: I am developing a Glossary for July 2026 that provides basic information for enthusiastic and junior practitioners (we all started somewhere with the help and support of a mentor). The Glossary is organized by term into a five-section format (Definition, Examples, Rationale, References, and Related Terms) and will be up for discussion among us practitioners. The objective will be to strengthen the Glossary together as we go. A typical example: What is EbA? Ecosystem-based Approach or Ecosystem-based Adaptation? I like to hear from you, because I use both depending on the context, but for those who know me, I am dogmatic!
YouTube Channel: This provides a gateway to the climate-and-nature nexus, NbS, and EbA, and further explains and disseminates some of the more difficult concepts summarized in the newsletters.
